Our research work & experience
d-sipher has over 30 years experience working across market, social research and evaluation methods. The following projects are a small example of our work.
Magnetic Island Solar Cities Community Research for Ergon Energy
Here’s what Ergon Energy reported on this project in their Annual Stakeholder Report 2007/08:
'a survey … was sent to every Ergon Energy customer on Magnetic Island. The response rate was exceptional…The survey also provided the deepest understanding Ergon Energy had ever been able to gain about the barriers, both perceived and real, people faced in reducing their electricity consumption and installing solar PV systems, but also about the economic and environmental benefits customers perceived in taking these actions.'
Noosa Community Governance and Planning Project for Noosa Council
d-sipher designed and established Noosa’s innovative community governance process over an 18 month period using evidence based methods, such as ABS data in combination with community engagement and consultation. The project won the Australasian Evaluation Society Award for Excellence in Evaluation Development and provides a model for future similar projects.
“Ellen demonstrated strengths as an organisational consultant in her well-considered and strategic approach to this complex and ground-breaking initiative…and she dealt effectively with a range of significant challenges to deliver results for the Noosa Community.”
– Angela Bryan, Community Sector Board Member
Energy Savers Research for Ergon Energy
To assist with targeting messages for energy saving in local households and the design of an energy saving incentive scheme, Ergon Energy needed to understand the nature of energy use in key regional areas. The research, using focus groups and paper surveys, established how people used their electricity, household preferences for energy saving incentives and key drivers in changing energy use behaviours.
NOOSA alive! Attendee Survey for Noosa Long Weekend Festival
This important survey informs sponsors such as Macquarie Bank and grant providers such as Tourism and Events Queensland about the outcomes of the Festival. d-sipher redesigned the survey and methodology to increase the number of responses to well above industry benchmarks. The report is used by the Festival for planning and decisions about future Festivals, marketing and promotions.
"What a valuable document - Ellen has done a great job again."
- Karen Mitchell, President Noosa Long Weekend Festival
Community consultation on Peregian Beach Park for Sunshine Coast Council
d-sipher designed a community consultation process to consult with local park users and stakeholders on their views about a proposed upgrade to the Park. Using on-site interviews of park users and a paper survey, the research identified community priorities for park upgrades and assisted Council to target its budget in these areas.
Program evaluation and needs assessment of Offspring Program for Camp Quality
Camp Quality needed to better understand the needs of the children of parents with cancer and their families around the Offspring Program. This study answered questions for Camp Quality about the key recreational and pyscho-social needs of families and children and the best fit program model to meet these needs.
